Subject Verb Agreement - use of the verb according to the person and number of subject
singular subject - singular verb
plural subject - plural verb
singular subjects- I, you, he, she, it, the boy, any name ex. Suresh
plural subjects - we, you, they, two names ex. Ram and Shyam
# verb +s/es/ies =singular verb
noun +s/es/ies =plural noun
Lets learn some rules about SYNTAX
Rule:1 singular/plural subject +need not/dare not → plural form of the verb
Ex. She dare not go there.
He dare not oppose his father.
Use of dare not and need not as the Marginal Auxiliary verb then singular
Use of dare not and need not as the Main verb then singular/plural
Ex. He dares to face the difficulties.
She needs a book.
They needs book.
He does not dare to go out in the sun.
Rule:2 Suppositional sentence that starts from if, as if, as though, if only, suppose, I wish, we wish, he wishes, she wishes...... Always plural verb WERE
Ex. I wish Manisha were my life.
If he were my boss, he would suspend me.
BUT Conditional sentence starts from if, as if, as though....
use of the verb according to the person and number of subject
Ex. If you come here, I will teach you.
Sneha looks as though she has been working.
Rule:3 Optative sentence ;- singular subject + plural verb
Ex. Live long our friendship!
God save the king!
Rule:4 Singular noun + and + singular noun → plural verb
Ex. Ravi and Kavi has done well in the examination.
A boy and a girl love each other.
